new(s) from phafours

A word up update on process/progress at phafours press.

I've been busy with a new chapbook from Kyla Houbolt, Little Survivors Everywhere. I previously read and reviewed her book Becoming Altar as well as read her But Then I Thought (above/ground, 2023) then Dawn’s Fool (above/ground, 2024), and Mapless: poems  (Shine, 2026). When she waved a hand wondering if anyone wanted her new collection, I shot my hand up.

That was a few months ago and subsequent talks of editing, covers, print runs, prices and finally fruition.

Last stage was: Printing. Then letting the printer cool enough to print second sides, (realizing I need more ink cartridges, ordering, and more cutter heads before I trim edges, ordering), reprinting, collating...

Realizing that I although I own no fewer than 3 bone folders I can find none of them. What to use? It has to be long. It can't be metal or it would shine the page. It can't be painted or it might rub colour on the sheets. So I used a wooden spoon.

Bring supervised by dog, I do the trimming. (I save the trimmed off bits to reuse into homemade paper.) The pages within have my customary endpaper nod, this time made of homemade paper.

phafours press has now got 2 chapbooks set to come out this fall. Little Survivors Everywhere by Kyla Houbolt, which has started shipping, with orders coming through my new phafours store(!)

Still working the bugs out of the store. It does what I’ve wanted to do for a decade, to have a cover, sample poems, size details, reviews, a way to order. It will automatically price for Canada, UK, U.S.

There doesn’t seem to be a “coming soon” so it lists Phil Hall’s In Praise of Small Press as available but it really isn’t yet. Probably next week.

Never mind the "502 Bad Gateway” if you get it. A server issue. Hit refresh.

Of course copies of both will be available at the small press fair too in November if you like cash in person sort of exchange.
